UP cop killed tech company executive: Lucknow shooting incident
A Uttar Pradesh police constable on duty allegedly shot dead a manager of a mobile company. The constable suspected him to be a thief. This Lucknow shooting incident took place in Maqdumpur police outpost in Lucknow’s Gomtinager extension on Saturday.
The deceased man’s name was Vivek Tewari. He was travelling with his friend Sana Khan in a car. They were intercepted constables Prashant Kumar and Sandeep Kumar.
Sana Khan in her statement to the police said, “The constables intercepted their vehicle and asked them to stop, however, the vehicle went ahead and rammed a lamp-post. Later, Prashant fired at the vehicle which hit the windscreen of the vehicle and bumped into Tewari.
The passers-informed the police and Tewari was taken to Lohia hospital. At the hospital, he was declared dead. On the basis of the complaint Sana Khan, police registered a case of murder against constable Prashant Kumar.
On the other hand, Kalpana Tewari, wife of Vivek Tewari, the deceased, told the media that the police had murdered her husband. She also claimed that the police had no rights to shoot her husband, although that is quite debatable. Sana Khan was also not allowed to talk to the media.
SSP Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani told media persons that Prashant Kumar has been arrested. He also added that the post-mortem will define the further course of action that will be taken the police. Constable Sandeep Kumar, also present at the spot during the incident, is undergoing medical for his statement to be taken.
The thing to be taken note of here is that the Lucknow shooting incident caused the death of a civilian, that is why the police are being blamed. Although, it was the fault of the civilian for not stopping the vehicle when asked to and coming under the suspicion radar of the police in the first place. If it was a terrorist instead, the same constable would have been honoured for his bravery.
